The Sleeping Prophet
Edgar Cayce (1877–1945) could recline on a couch, loosen his collar, and slip into a self-induced sleep. In that trance state — given only a name and a place — he answered questions on the body, the soul, and the shape of things to come, in language far beyond his waking schooling.
Over more than four decades he gave in excess of 14,000 documented readings — on holistic healing, dreams, meditation, reincarnation, and prophecy — each one transcribed and preserved. In 1931 he founded the Association for Research and Enlightenment to study them. Skeptics doubted; thousands were convinced.
